World Renowned Jazz Trumpeter Plays Latin Jazz Concert
The Albuquerque Center For Spiritual Living is presenting it's 14th annual Jazz and Chocolate Fest on Sunday April 5 th at 6:30 PM. The phenomenal trumpeter Bobby Shew will perform a concert of Latin jazz selections that have been written and/or arranged for him over the course of his stellar career.
Mr. Shew, who moved back to his native Albuquerque last year after more than 30 years in Los Angeles , has achieved remarkable success as both an in-demand studio player and a top flight jazz player. His playing is heard on many well known television shows and movie sound tracks, including “Hawaii Five-O”, “Happy Days”, “Rockie I and II” and many more. His jazz playing has been recognized with a Grammy nomination (“Outstanding In His Field”) and the Jazz Album Of The Year in 1983 for “Heavy Company”.
Mr. Shew remembers fondly growing up in Burque and playing his first jobs here. These often included playing Latin influenced music. He is looking forward to once again sharing his prodigious talents and some wonderful Latin jazz with his hometown fans.
Also featured are a collection of six of New Mexico 's finest Latin and jazz musicians: Glenn Kostur on saxophone, Christian Pincock on trombone, Cesar Bauvallet on congas, Arnaldo Acosta on drums, Milo Jaramillo on bass, and Stu MacAskie on piano. Chocolate and deserts will be on sale during the intermission. Tickets are $15, and $10 for students. Childcare will be available. Call 881-4311 for tickets and to make childcare reservations.
Proceeds benefit the Albuquerque Center For Spiritual Living youth programs.
